Employers Health’s Director of Pharmacy, Matthew Harman, recently participated in the Society for Women’s Health Research’s (SWHR) Interdisciplinary Network on Migraine to develop a Migraine Patient Toolkit. This new resource provides important information about migraine diagnosis and treatment options, as well as ways employers can provide support to employees experiencing migraines.

Migraine is a neurological disease with extremely disabling neurological symptoms and more than 90% of sufferers are unable to work or function normally during their migraine. Still, a vast majority of migraine sufferers do not seek medical attention for their pain, fearing they will not be taken seriously by their employer. This stigma results in employers bearing costs due to lost productivity and medical costs that equates to about $84,000 per 1000 employees annually. The SWHR Migraine Toolkit gives employers the information they need to begin a conversation addressing migraine in the workplace and treatment options to take back those employees quietly suffering.
