As an accomplished pharmacy leader, PBM consultant and trusted advisor with over 30 years of diverse and impactful result-based experience, Dr. Douglas Rasmussen excels in driving pharmacy results through clinical excellence and innovative solutions across the pharmacy spectrum. Beginning his career as a pharmacy specialist in the United States Air Force, Dr. Rasmussen has since evolved into a trusted and reliable leader with his roles in pharmacy consulting and clinical program development. A visionary in clinical pharmacy and strategic outcomes, Dr. Rasmussen is dedicated to fostering innovation, enhancing patient care and creating value-driven solutions for each health care partner.
After earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Mississippi and completing an ASHP-accredited residency, Dr. Rasmussen served as a pharmacy clinical manager for acute care hospitals — expertly overseeing clinical services, personnel and strategic initiatives for facilities ranging from 150–400 patient beds. His influence expanded regionally as he was entrusted with clinical pharmacy operations for 45 hospitals, where he spearheaded formulary management, cost-containment strategies and pharmacoeconomic outcomes.
Dr. Rasmussen transitioned into specialty pharmacy, where he successfully developed nationwide clinical programs addressing complex disease states, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, HIV, hepatitis C and multiple sclerosis. Today, he proudly serves as vice president, clinical pharmacy for the Alera Group. In his role, he focuses on achieving clients’ annual pharmacy results by delivering exceptional client and consultant support, strategic guidance and advocacy for clinical performance.
