Center for Cancer Health Equity at the OSUCCC – The James

Dr. Oppong is a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer treatment. With expertise in breast conservation surgery, advanced mastectomy procedures and innovative irradiation techniques, such as modified radical mastectomy and skin and nipple sparing mastectomy coordinated with breast-focused reconstructive plastic surgeons.

Her goal is to provide compassionate care that is personalized to every individual. At The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) – The James, cancer is treated through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates surgeons and oncologists, addressing not only medical aspects but also providing psychosocial support and nutritional guidance for patients.

As a member of the Cancer Control Program at the OSUCCC – The James, Dr. Oppong’s academic focus lies in researching health disparities in breast cancer outcomes, particularly in minority populations. Her projects explore disparities, biology’s impact on breast tumors and patient characteristics, with an additional interest in international breast health and improving cancer care in developing countries.

In addition to her clinical and research roles, Dr. Oppong serves as deputy director of the Center for Cancer Health Equity at the OSUCCC – The James and as an associate professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She is honored to be part of a team that is filled with like-minded professionals and experts who are not only interested in state-of-the-art cancer treatment but also in advancing their fields.
